Gadhafi’s Crazy Tent

Today’s the last of three busy days for President Obama at the UN.

And he’s been out front on many issues: global warming; Middle East peace; relations with China, Russia, Japan, and African nations; and nuclear disarmament.

Important talks on very important issues. And what’s received all the media attention? Moammar Gadhafi’s tent!

First, he wanted to pitch his tent in Englewood, New Jersey. But local officials said no tents allowed.

Then, he set his eyes on Central Park, maybe the Great Meadow. New York said no dice.

Finally, he headed 43 miles out the city to Bedford, New York – hey, that’s where Martha Stewart lives! – where, once again, local officials shot him down. But, this time, the Secret Service intervened and ordered town officials – not only to let him put up his tent, but to provide him and his entourage police protection.

Now, this is ridiculous!

Seriously, I don’t buy into this Gadhafi’s an evil man and we all have to hate him nonsense. But, still – why should he get this kind of special treatment?

Instead of forcing Gadhafi and his tent down the throats of the good residents of Bedford, I think the Secret Service should have just told the Libyan leader: This is the United States. Tourists don’t hang out in tents in this country. They sleep in hotels.

And if you don’t want to sleep in a hotel, you can take your tent and go home.

That’s my parting shot for today.
