It seems a little too convenient that Senator Harry Reid backs a Public Option and then a day later Senator Joe Lieberman said that he would not support such a plan, thereby losing the filibuster-proof majority the Democrats needed to pass such a plan. I smell a rat, and the American people need to speak out against this obfuscation. Congress does not need to worry about passing a health care plan for all Americans; they have their own government-sponsored plan and they are the recipients of millions of dollars of campaign money from the insurance industries.

I cannot believe how unrealistic you are talking (perhaps you are playing devil’s advocate).
I agree single payer is the best. If you wait for single payer, in 2050, 3 of the 4 nations that make up the former U.S. of A., will add single payer to their constitution. The New Confederate States of the South will still not have it. (The former USA will have been totally bankrupt with 60& of their GDP going to insurance companies).
The best we can do now is this “opt-out” option. We will be lucky to get this.
Social Security was “opt-out” originally – no one opted-out. States can opt-out of road funds – no one does.
Opt-out is the same as a trigger – neither will actually happen.

Am I suppose to feel sympathy for folks in Alabama if their elected officials “opt-out”?
Let me put it like this: I will feel sympathy for those who vote progressive. Maybe the rest of the Albamians that need affordable health care will learn a lesson — ya think?
Lieberman is a piece of shit …and always has been – for the record Sen. Lieberman has long been known to cultivate the insurance and pharmaceutical industries, which provide jobs in his home state and contributions to his campaign fund.
His wife, Hadassah joined Hill & Knowlton last year. The legendary lobbying and PR firm hired her as a “senior counselor” in its “health and pharmaceuticals practice.”
Lieberman is beyond contempt and a real slimy piece of shit. The contempt for him is real. This move “IF” the wormy, mealy mouthed, flip flopper, sticks to his word (he never does) but if he does lead a filibuster to prevent a VOTE on healthcare this will be Joe’s last act as a politician. He will get run out of the Senate and Connecticut. What a bunch of intellectual lightweights and misfits that re-elected him. I can tell you one thing he’s not much of an independent. He’s a hack for the Status Quo and his days are numbered.
