Implement a War Tax

Nobody likes more taxes, but…

Here’s one idea you’d better brace yourself for: a new war tax – to pay for sending more troops to Afghanistan.

At the White House yesterday, Robert Gibbs insisted the president hasn’t yet decided on how he would pay for a decision he hasn’t yet made. Which makes sense.

But he did say that, like health care, the president would not just send more troops to Afghanistan without including a plan on how to pay for them. He would not, in other words, simply pile more debt onto the already overloaded budget deficit.

As one way to pay for more troops, he did not endorse a war tax. But he didn’t rule it out, either. And that’s significant. Because three House Chairman and Senate Armed Services Chairman Carl Levin have proposed a war tax as the only way to pay for more troops in Afghanistan.

Again, nobody likes more taxes, but…If we are going to have a wider war in Afghanistan, it’s only fair that all Americans chip in to pay for it.

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t be for the war in Afghanistan and against the war tax.

That’s my parting shot for today.

I would only agree to a war tax if the companies and individuals that benefit from it were to be taxes. We don’t need to be there. We shouldn’t have to pay for a war that the majority don’t want.

  2. Bill Brady says:

Another terriric morale booster for the troops, compliments of the Democrats who always “support the troops”.

I don’t like ACORN, Planned Parenthood, Obama’s world wide tour, Obamacare, cap and trade, freebies for illegal aliens, TARP, Stimulus, bailouts, etc.etc.etc. How about everyone who likes these programs pay for them and leave the rest of us alone?
