Crashing the White House: Who’s Responsible?

As someone who usually goes to the White House three times a week, let me tell you: It’s not easy to get in, even if you’re a regular.

You could bust into the Vatican and sit on the Pope’s lap easier than you could get anywhere near the President.

Or so we all thought. Until last week’s State Dinner, when a publicity-hungry couple from Virginia strolled into the White House and shook hands with Barack Obama as easy as if they were walking into McDonald’s.

Who’s responsible?

The Secret Service, most of all. It’s their job to protect our president. And they didn’t do it. The agent who discovered their name was not on the list, but waved them in anyway should be fired.

The White House Social Affairs Office, also. They should have a staff member, familiar with the guest list, alongside every Secret Service officer. Why didn’t they?

And the couple themselves, who decided to crash the party – just to get on television. They should be charged with trespassing and endangering the life of the president.

This must be fixed. Americans need to know their president is safe everywhere – especially, inside the White House.

That’s my parting shot for today.

I can understand why this is a big deal, but does it really need the 24/7 treatment?
I am much more interested in health care reform. I think the Dems are dreaming if they expect to do well in 2010 without a public option in the bill. They should pass the bill with 51 votes so we can get what we voted for. The young voters who gave Obama his victory will not vote in 2010. The Repubs are much more motivated to stop Obama. The Dems are in big trouble in 2010 unless they show young voters that they are going to implement the chance they voted for.

The “crashers” weren’t “crashers”. They have ties to Obama from many years back. They can’t be considered as strangers to the Prez and first lady. Stay tuned. The truth will be known and neither the Secret Service nor the Marines blew it.

I think this just goes to show the inherent racism still prevelant in our society. Take an old white man in a suit and a thin blonde and I’d bet they could walk past all kinds of security. Make that man any other race and it wouldn’t of happened.
