A Great SOTU Speech

He had a tough job to do: take charge; reset the agenda; get things moving again; re-energize his base; and rally the American people.

Mission accomplished!

President Obama’s first Inaugural Address was both powerful and uplifting, especially when he talked about the can-do spirit of the American people.

I didn’t agree with everything in the speech. Certainly wasn’t excited to hear him call for more nuclear power plants and offshore drilling. And I think a spending freeze is just plain dumb.

But, overall, I believe the president set the right tone: serious and inspirational. He kept the right focus: on jobs and the economy. He put forth the right agenda: an array of steps to help small business and middle-class families. And he refused to walk away from health care reform.

In very forceful terms, the president did his job. Laid out what has to be done this year to get this country back on track. Now, if only – if only!! – Republicans and Democrats in Congress would get to work and get something done for the American people.

That’s my parting shot for today.

    Hi, Bill!

Watched the SOTU address last nite. What kept nagging at me as I listened was when are we going to see the tough action vis-a-vis the Reps and Conservadems to back up the tough talk? I can’t imagine LBJ kissing Ben Nelson’s butt to the tune of $100 m. I’m sick of the Pusillanimous Pussycrats. Screw bipartisanship, kick ass, and let’s get on with what will benefit the American people.

How about if “The One”, Nancy and Harry round up the repubs and tell them again “I won, so stop talking and get out of the way”. MMMMMMM, sure worked well the last time. Maybe it will work better a second time.
