Meet The Candidate: Beth Krom
Beth Krom is running for Congress in California’s 48th Congressional District.
Skeptical about the ability of city leaders to effectively fight a proposed airport, Beth Krom ran and won a seat on the Irvine City Council in 2000. She went on to win four more consecutive elections, including two terms as the directly elected mayor. During her tenure as mayor, Irvine was recognized as the “safest big city” in America all four years, was named one of the ‘greenest’ cities in the country, city reserves were tripled and Irvine today is one of the rare cities in the nation that has not been forced to lay off a single employee or raise local taxes to balance the budget. She is now running for Congress against John Campbell because of his stridently partisan record and his refusal to work across party lines to move our country forward. Beth says that she’s never met a Republican who doesn’t see the connection between education and economic opportunity, and never met a Democrat who didn’t believe that we need jobs and a robust economy to support a high quality of life for all Americans. In Washington, Beth will do what she’s always done – listen and work with both sides to find common ground to move our country forward.
