You’ve heard me talk about Glenn Beck’s planned rally at the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, which I strongly oppose.
Well, here’s the latest. It’s not only an insult to the memory of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr.
As I learned yesterday from the National Park Service, it’s all a fraud.
I spoke with Bill Line in the Communications Office of the NPS. He told me:
- 1. Even though the poster for Beck’s rally shows the Lincoln Memorial, the event would actually be held on the steps of the Reflecting Pool in front of the Memorial, not on the steps of the Memorial itself.
- 2. At this point, according to Line, no final permit has been awarded for the August 28 event. The permit is still pending, and may not in fact be approved. Nevertheless, Beck is already selling t-shirts and posters for the event – and inviting members of the public to attend.
Not only that, Beck is exploiting a charity for the troops to pay for his rally. His website solicits contributions to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, but the fine print says: All contributions made to the SOWF will first be applied to the costs of the Restoring Honor Rally taking place on August 28, 2010.
So there you have it. Glenn Beck’s August 28 rally? It’s not really at the Lincoln Memorial. It may not even be held at all. And he’s using our military to raise money for his political event.

Abraham Lincoln was wrong when he said that if we are destroyed, it will be from within. That too, will never happen.

The rally isn’t phony in that a group of people of their own free will are gathering in a public place. They say they are rallying for something… fine. Then it’s a rally.
As for the press coverage — certainly in the lead up (a “news” network sponsored “news” event), THAT part is already phony. Jon Stewart, of all people, exposed the rigged Fox news coverage film clips of Beck’s last rally. The complicity of the mainstream media in Fox’s fraudulent approach to “news” is the saddest part of all this. Mainstream media, which purports to expose corruption in all areas of civic and public life, has been quite cowed, cozy, and/or bought off by Fox News for years.
As for Beck getting rich off his nonsense, so be it. Someone got rich off the Pet Rock and the Veg-o-Matic. This is America. My issue is with Fox News… and more significantly the appalling complicity of networks and (once) respectable news organizations that sit and tolerate their daily swill.
My entire family will be there. Plane tickets already purchased. I am sick and tired of the liberal socialists taking my money that I earn and giving it away. Taxes must stop, spending must stop. STOP YOU LIBERALS, STOP.

Mr. Press, The people who are attending the Restoring Honor event honor the memory and follow the peaceful teachings of Dr. King. These people study and honor the Constitution that Abraham Lincoln devoted his life to. I can say this, because I know many of these people, and many others who would like to attend but cannot.
I have also read and understand the “fine print” regarding the donation to SOWF. Guess what: the good people of SOWF have read it too. (Duh) If they are ok with it, then I sure am. In fact, I saw the offer of the silver commemorative coin for a $150 donation to SOWF. Which I felt was too much for me right now – UNTIL I read your criticism! I got online immediately and contributed the $150. So in a way, thank you. So NT Tom, Mr. Snipes, Barton Fink, Bill Press …. sorry, but you are wrong. Don’t understand what goes on in your little brains, but you’ve got it all bass-ackwards. I hope you are watching on August 28. I feel GB has the right to do what ever he thinks is correct…he has alot of respect for MLK and expresses that on a regular basis. He chose the date because of the importance of the message delivered that day…blacks, whites, browns, multi-color, and all the rest (normal ones), understand that. What is wrong with trying to restore HONOR in our government…ourselves and in our country? I feel better now…:)

Seems you’ve redacted any progressive/liberal comments so I’ll try to present a short one. Your insights are on the mark! The Becks, Limbaughs, Palins, Malkins, Bachmans, et. al. of the world are as inciteful (NOT insightful) and ‘revulsive’ as are the Muslim extremists they revile. All the hate speech from these people, including (but by no means limited to) the diatribes against the proposed Muslim Cultural Center in Lower Manhattan or the anticipated rhetoric on 28 August, adds considerable fuel to a fire that should have been put out with the adoption of the Constitution of the United States of America (let’s see – that’s a few hundred years by now, right?). One can conclude, for example, the anti-Muslim Center rhetoric provides compulsive advertising for recruitment of more Islamic extremists. A part of me believes such incitement by the Becks, et. al. is being done intentionally and with malice aforethought. The hypocrisy that runs rampant among the Teabag Partiers and others of their ilk (including many if not most of the ‘right-eous’ Republicans) astounds me. Furthermore, those who continue to shout “Constitution” appear to have no idea what it is, what it stands for and likely have not read a shred of it.
I have many other thoughts and comments but I’m sure this will infuriated your responders enough for now – sure hate to be the cause of a burst aorta or explosive disembowelment.
